Jura System Messages

"Fill System" "Press Rotary" or "Press Rinse or "Press Steam/Open tap" message - these are given when the machine does not register any or enough water passing the flow meter - first check as a user, is the water tank - Is the black magnetic float in the water tank free and able to move up and down (this will more often give the message "fill water tank" - then under the tank itself, is a small circular valve which can be pushed up (when over a sink ideally) to release water - a good flow of water should escape when doing this. If you have a water filter in the water tank try removing it temporarily.

The flow meter may have some sticky debris in from sludge in the tank that can accumulate if not cleaned out regularly - It may help to put hot (not boiling) water in the tank and press rinse a few times, as this can get the flow meter moving again.

Is any water coming out of the front of the machine? or into the tray? when rinse is pressed? If there is no sound from the pump, then it may be a dead pump or power board, however if there is a low drone/pump sound, but nothing gets through it is very likely blocked inside with scale, and may need to be disassembled to locate the blockage and successfully clear it - sometimes just running a strong solution of 6 Jura descale tablets in 500ml of warm water in the tank and pressing rinse will remove the blockage, but be aware that it could create a leak from elsewhere in the fluid system due to the pressure required to shift the blockage - also there is quite a distance of pipe from the tank to the likely blockage and to get the descale solution to the point where it is required would require that water to be pushed through, which the blockage is stopping, so I would disconnect the pipework as close to the blockage as possible and pump the solution through, or is some cases replace the blocked component altogether.

"Fill Beans"

Apart from the obvious empty bean container, a Jura coffee machine displaying the message "fill beans" when the bean hopper is full is indicative that insufficient coffee powder has reached the brew unit. This can be either because of a powder  blockage, if you can hear the grinder operating before the brew unit cycles and then says "fill beans" it is possible that the output of the grinder is blocked with fine powder, you may be able to clear this with a vacuum cleaner, but it may need proper dismantling to remove all the obstruction and clean and recalibrate the grinder blades.

Occasionally a brewer fault can cause this message, whereby if the brew unit is not returning to its ready position to receive the coffee from the grinder then the coffee will fall off the back of the brew unit and the machine will believe that no powder was produced, consequently displaying "fill Beans".

If you cannot hear the grinder operate before the brewer cycle, it is most likely that the grinder motor has failed or burnt out, or the power pcb that feeds it has blown. Cafe Select carry  new Jura Grinder units on board for most models, power boards are harder to diagnose remotely and if needed, when visiting site, we would order a new one and remove to the workshop for fitting, returning the machine to site upon completion, there is no extra charge for the revisit, only the cost of parts as necessary.

 "Empty Tray"

If your Jura coffee machine is giving the message "empty tray" and you have just emptied the tray, there are a few things you can check - the machines that have metal tray contacts on the back of the drip tray need to have ALL dirt, water or coffee oil cleaned from between the two contacts, as any residue can become moist and conduct the current between the two metal plates giving the "empty tray" message. If you have been running a lot of hot water or steam directly into the tray it is possible for the internal contacts to become damp and this may take 24hrs to dry out - IF you turn on the machine and the message is gone, but shortly after a rinse or coffee the message re-appears then it is very possible that  there is a leak inside which is finding its way down to the internal contacts.

It is worth noting that Z series and J series machines have a microswitch located just above the waste bin at the front of the machine which tells the machine when the waste bin support is in place - this microswitch can get coffee residue on it and stick in the closed position fooling the machine into thinking that the tray is still there and as a consequence not acknowledging that the tray has been removed for emptying in the course of a clean or de-scale.

"Machine Heating" This message is often displayed when first switched on, while the machine heats its thermobloc / Thermoblocs to the correct temperature - if the correct temperature is not reached within the specified time, the machine will usually return an error 4 or error 2 depending on which machine and which thermobloc. The first thing to try in this instance is to turn off the Jura machine at the wall and then turn it back on again - this allows the cycle to begin again and if the machine was simply too cold to reach temperature the first time it will often get there the second, if it still comes back error 2 or error 4 after 3 or 4 attempts, then it is likely that your Jura machine needs to be examined to establish if there is a faulty component.

If the machine continues to display the machine heating message but does not move on from this, then it is usually because the power to the thermobloc has been cut, often by a blown thermal fused cord - the power supply to the Jura thermoblocs has a fail safe, cut out - to prevent overheating, should the sensor fail, the power cords have thermal fuses in line, which will blow and consequently disconnect power should excessive temperature be reached - once blown these cords need replacing to restore power and the cause also needs to be established.
